Ondo SUBEB Holds Two-Day Training For 1,100 Newly Employed Primary School Teachers On Tuesday

Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (ODSUBEB), will be holding a two-day induction training for its 1,100 newly employed primary school teachers, beginning from Tuesday, April 29 to Wednesday, April 30, 2025, across six designated centres in the state 

The induction training is part of a renewed effort to reposition basic education in the State 

Director of Information and Public Relations at ODSUBEB, Prince Bolu Ajijo who announced this in a statement, says Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa will be declaring  the induction training open 

Speaking on the exercise, the Executive Chairman of ODSUBEB, Victor Olabimtan, said the training will be flagged off by the governor at St. James’ CAC Mega Primary School, Irowo, Akure, by 10:00 a.m.

According to him, the induction aims to familiarise the new teachers with best practices in modern teaching, classroom management, and assessment techniques, equipping them for effective service delivery.

He revealed that the training will take place simultaneously in Akure, Ikare-Akoko, Owo, Ondo, Okitipupa, and Irele, explaining that the centres were deliberately chosen to reduce the stress, travel risk and financial burden on participants.

This training is not just a formality. It is a structured part of our long-term Teachers’ Professional Development strategy designed to ensure that our new recruits are ready for the challenges of modern classrooms,” Olabimtan stated.

He noted that the programme also serves as a proper orientation into the Ondo State public service system for the new intakes, and will contribute to building a competent and motivated teaching workforce in the state.

While expressing appreciation to Governor Aiyedatiwa for approving the recruitment that addressed long-standing vacancies in the public primary school system, Olabimtan described the move as a bold step to revamp education at the grassroots.

The ODSUBEB boss, who is also a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly and ex-Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), described the induction training as further demonstration of Governor Aiyedatiwa's commitment to human capital development 

“The Governor has demonstrated yet again that he is serious about investing in human capital. This training is the beginning of a journey for these teachers.”, as quoted in the state local online journal, "The Hope" 

He added that the programme would also create a platform for the teachers to engage, collaborate, and share knowledge among themselves.

The training will be coordinated by the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), a federal agency under the Ministry of Education responsible for teachers’ capacity development in Nigeria.

Participants will be taken through key modules covering innovative instructional methods, learner-centred pedagogy, behavioural management, and performance assessment.
