Ogun State Government has charged learners to be ambassadors of conflict resolution in their respective schools and within the communities of their abode, to engender peaceful co-existence in the state
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, gave the charge during a-day Leadership Retreat For Selected Students Representative (CRC) Members in all public secondary schools in Remo Division, saying students should desist from disruptive activities that could truncate their academic pursuits.
Prof. Arigbabu, represented by the Zonal Education Officer, Sagamu Local Government, Mr. Kolade Erubami, described the topic, "Stemming the Tide of Disruptive Behavior Among Learners: Focus on Servanthood Leadership Principles", as very apt at this time, when moral decadence had become the order of the day among students.
"I will like to give kudos to the organiser of this programme for this great topic which is very relevant at this time and I want to enjoin you students to please listen with rapt attention and apply servanthood to correct your conflicts", he said.
In their separate address, the Commissioner IV and Permanent Secretary of Ogun State Teaching Service Commission, Hon. Joseph Adeleye and Mrs. Melutia Ogunremi, respectively, said the programme would help teachers and learners to know how to manage conflicts and thereby maintain psychological balance, peace of mind and sanity.
Speaking, the Principal-General of Remo Division, who is also the convener of the programme, Dr. Olubunmi Womiloju, stated that the aim of the event was to equip students with necessary leadership and moral skills that would make them sound in both academics and moral standards.
The resource person, Mrs. Omolara Onasanya and the Special Guest, Mr. Mofopefoluwa Joseph, acknowledged communication as a major tool for conflict resolution, saying teachers should put the students right by playing a mentorship role.
