Vice-Chancellor Cautions Against Cultism, Exam Malpractices, Sexual Harassment, As LASU Matriculates 12,590 Students

Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University Ojo, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello has strongly cautioned newly admitted 12,590 students against cultism, examimation malpractices , sexual harassment and indecent dressing, saying the institution has zero tolerance for such unholy acts on campus 

The Vice-Chancellor who read the riot-act  on Tuesday during the matriculation of the fresh students for the 2024/2025 academic session, said those found culpable would be seriously punished in line with disciplinary mechanism of the university 

" I must also stress that the University under my administration has zero tolerance for Sexual and Gender based violence, and that informed our decision to establish the Directorate of Response and Preventive of Sexual and Gender based violence. Do not keep silent when you are harassed or assaulted in any manner. “If you see something, say something"

"As young men and women desirous of a brighter future, it is expected that you abide with the rules and regulations of the University and be committed to your studies: be regular in attending lectures;carry out all your assignments;shun deviant behaviors", she urged them

The Vice-Chancellor enjoined them to always strive for academic excellence in all they do in the institution while congratulating the students on their admission out of over 50,000 applicants who subscribed to the university 

"We are committed to ensuring that your learning environment remains conducive, competitive and secure"

Lagos State University according to her, is a student-centered institution, dedicated to nurturing and grooming the next generation of leaders.

" As a university, we embrace the principles of academic freedom, fostering an environment that encourages critical thinking and creativity. However, in LASU, that freedom often comes with equivalent obligations and boundaries. We take pride in training students for life. We are focused on character development of our students. This is based on the hope that when you graduate, you will contribute meaningfully to developmental discourses around the globe" , she stated 

She assured the new students of adequate security in and around the institution, expressing the commitment of the university's management to their welfare on campus
