Organized Labour in Ogun State has expressed shock over what it described as non- implementation of the consequential adjustment for workers on the payroll of the State Government contrary to the promise made for the commencement of the minimum Wage at the end of last month
The Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi at the October 14 meeting with organized labour including the leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, Comrade Hameed Benco-Ademola, his counter-part in Trade Union Congress TUC, Comrade Akeem Lasisi and that of Joint Negotiating Council Chairman, Comrade Isa Olude, agreed on the payment of N77,000 for lowest worker in the service and expected to have commenced at the end of last October, 2024
But the State Chairman of TUC, Akeem Lasisi speaking in Abeokuta during the recently concluded Town-Hall Engagement on the proposed 2025 budget, said workers were shock that the consequential adjustment for grade levels 1-17 did not reflect in their salaries for the month of October, saying the payment only showed addition of just N42,000 across all the grade levels
"When we received the October,2024 Salary, the entire workforce in Ogun State were shocked , we were shocked because the consequential adjustment was not reflected across the grade levels, just addition of N42,000 for grade levels 1-17
The TUC Chairman on behalf of the organized labour appealed to the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration to critically look into the implementation of the consequential adjustment in the proposed 2025 budget for both civil and public servants in the employment of the State Government
"At same time as July 2025 is fast approaching, workers are seriously apprehensive on the implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme, we are apprehensive because the scheme has failed its existence, objectives with the huge amount of unremitted deductions owed by the State government. How can we commence implementation of the scheme when we are owing Pension Fund Managers such a huge amount of money ", he decried
The Labour leader also stressed the need for government to release the reports of its two special committees set up on the Consequential Adjustment for Pensioners and that of Contributory Pension Scheme
"We want to appeal to government to please ensure that as it increases the salary of workers, our senior citizen should be considered , looking at the Pension Law which says once salary of workers increases ,that of pensioner increases by 33.3 percent ", he stated
Lasisi while commending the Abiodun's administration for its payment of leave allowances from January till date, he urged government to consider the payment of leave allowances from 2015 to 2022 in the proposal for the 2025 budget of the State
"At the same time having approved the promotion for 2023 and 2024 in the service , we want government to please include the financial benefits of these promotion, to further most the moral and efficiency of workers in the state "he pleaded
The TUC Chairman, however lauded the administration for increasing the quarterly payment of the inherited gratuities to retirees to N2billion and clearance of the outstanding deductions from salaries of workers to their respective co-operative societies
