The Lagos State University Centre for Afro-Brazilian Studies (LASUCAS) recently held its 3rd International Conference between Monday, 28th and Tuesday, 29th October 2024, to celebrate the cultural values and similaries of Africa and Latin America
The 2-day international conference with the theme *Bridging the Atlantic: Brazil and Sub-Saharan Africa, South-South Partnering held at the Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Theatre, featured a vibrant display of Afro-Brazilian culture.
The State Honourable Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State, Mr Lawal Pedro who chaired the event, highlighted the vital contributions of the Brazilian descendants to Lagos' cultural and social landscape, evident in the state’s architecture, cuisine, music, and traditions.
Mr Pedro acknowledged the establishment of the LASU Centre for Afro-Brazilian Studies (LASUCAS) and the biennial conference, which alternates between LASU and the Federal University of Bahia in Brazil.
He also paid tribute to former Consul-General of Brazil, Ambassador Luz Soares........
