World Teachers' Day: ASUSS Calls For Gazetting Of Principal General's Office, Housing Scheme For Teachers In Ogun

Academic Staff Union Of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) has asked Ogun State Government to strongly  consider the gazetting  of the office of Principal General, to enable those occupying the office to enjoy similar benefits  with  Permanent Secretaries in the core service

The State Chairman of ASUSS, Dr.Seun Agbesanwa who made the request on Saturday during the celebration of this year's World Teachers' Day at the Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, also stressed the need for allocation of pilgrimage slots and housing scheme benefits to teachers, the opportunities according to the union, are already being  enjoyed by other categories of workers over the years

ASUSS added that the gazetting of the office would make it difficult for incoming administration to scrab the office of Principal General for secondary education sector as experienced in the eight years tenure of the immediate past administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun in the state, until the current government of Prince Dapo Abiodun who resuscitated the office

The union stressed the need for government to abrogate the Contributory Pension Scheme which it described as obnoxious which has the capacity to reduce humanity in already dehumanized workforce

ASUSS at the celebration which as its theme "Recognizing and Appreciating Teachers' Voices and Working Towards a New Social Contract for Education", also reminded Governor Abiodun of the need to redeem his administration's promise to give a house each to winners of last year's Teachers Awards

"A couple of our colleagues made the state proud as they brought global honours to the State. They are Kayode Adewale and Odufeso Tajudeen who were to be given a house each ,as promised by your Excellency since last year, and are yet to receive that gift as we speak. Others are Olukayode Kehinde and Emosu Temitope . We urge your Excellency to compensate these wonderful men as a way of incentives and encouraging others", the union pleaded

Comrade Agbesanwa also appealed to government to take over the ownership of Lufuwape Community High School in Obafemi -Owode Local Government Area while Governor Abiodun of the need to redeem the long standing pledge of a parcel of land to the union

ASUSS lauded the Prince Dapo Abiodun's administration for what the union described as outstanding performance when compared to what his colleagues in other South West States do , except Lagos, particularly in the area of Information and Communication Technology ICT, under the OGSERA initiative which digitalized activities in the education sector in the state
