Ogun Govt Assures Motorists Of Safety In CNG Usage

Ogun State Government has assured motorists of safeness in the conversion process of their vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) from Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol whose pump price of per litre has continued to rise in Nigeria

The State Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Dairo Olugbenga who gave the assurance, while fielding question from newsmen in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, dismissed the fear of explosion being speculated around as regards conversion to CNG

CNG  according to him, is naturally less combustible than gasoline, odourless, clear, non-corrosive, and safer, which can only ignite five to 15 percent in the air

He  noted that the use of qualified technicians and quality materials were essential for conversion diligence.

The Commissioner, said the Federal Government’s decision of making CNG a first choice for cheaper and cleaner energy, led to its introduction as alternative to the conventional petrol and diesel, to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal in the country.

He said the state government would ensure that materials for the conversion were satisfied by the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), while technician that would be handling the fittings have necessary training and satisfied by accredited institutions or organisation.
