Ogun State Government says it is taking bold steps to make herb products of alternate medicine practitioners to be more acceptable within and and outside Nigeria's health sector for treatment of diseases in line with global best practices
The Chairman Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board, (OGAMB), Balogun Nurudeen Olaleye, disclose this at the second graduation ceremony of the Emmanuel College of Traditional Medicine and Health Technology (ECOTHTECH), at the Daniel Akintomide Arcade Hall, Ita-Alapo Ijebu-Ode.
Balogun Olaleye, represented by the agency’s Information Officer, Mr. Dolapo Jinad, said government would continue to provide enabling environment to encourage the practice of alternate medicine in the state
He attributed the successes achieved in the alternate medicine practice to cooperation with government, in terms of proper registrations and abiding with operational laws guiding the practice.
Head of Department of Forest Resources Management, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, (FUNAB), Prof. Samuel Oluwalana, a guest speaker at the event,delivering a lecture, titled "Traditional Medicine Has Now Become a Goldmine, World Is Awaiting Nigeria", says natural medicine is now gaining global acceptance as a money-making sector for government, especially in the western countries
The world according to him,depends on Nigeria for the supply of major recipes used for discovering products, “which are packaged and brought back to us as finished products that we buy with huge amount of money, contributing to the downturn of our economy”
The don called on government to give more support to the Board.
Earlier, the school Provost, Dr. Adebayo Owolabi, who appreciated the Board’s continuous assistance to the College, congratulated the graduands for their endurance, leading to successful certification, reminding them to always adhere to the rules guiding the practice.
Responding on behalf of other graduating students, Mrs. Habibat Fasasi, appreciated the school management and the state government for establishing Alternate Medicine Board, as a platform that brought light into the sub-sector through its advocacy and enlightenment orientation workshop for practitioners, promising to be good ambassadors of the school.
