Another sum of N1billion has been disbursed by the Ogun State Government to settle part of the inherited gratuities to retired local government staff and public primary school teachers for the 3rd quarter of 2024, to further demonstrate commitment to Pensioners' welfare and well-being.
The Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Engr. Olufisan Osiyale who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said that the gesture was in tandem with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s promise to be consistent in the disbursement of gratuities.
Engr. Osiyale pointed out that government was passionate about the plight of the pensioners, especially in the light of the present economic downturn in the country, promising that the current administration would continue to prioritise the comfort of the senior citizens, so as to improve on their living conditions.
He added that the emoluments were paid to next-of-kins of deceased pensioners, advising the beneficiaries to use the money for their upkeep, to ensure healthy living.
In their separate remarks, the State Chairmen, Association of Retired Primary School Teachers Ogun State (ARPSTOS), Mr. Zaacheous Adekoya and that of the Local Government Pensioners Association of Nigeria (LOGPAN), Pastor Benedict Ademoye and Chairperson, Retired Primary School Teachers Association of Nigeria (REPSTAN), Mrs. Caroline Oguntola, lauded the governor for the regular payment of monthly pensions and quarterly disbursement of gratuities to retirees, urging him not to relent in his efforts to make life more abundant for the senior citizens in the state.
Responding, two of the beneficiaries, Mr. Mathew Akinsanmi and Mrs. Bolanle Sodeke, appreciated Governor Abiodun for the gesture, imploring him not to relent for other retirees to benefit and reap the fruits of their labour while alive.
