Muslim Clerics including National Missionary, Islamic Youth League, Uztaz Jubril Lawal, Chief Imam of Ijaiyeland, Dr. Musbahudeen Musa-Olomu , Chief Missionary of the Society of Muslim Professionals, Imam Abdul-Wasiu Abubakr and Ogun State former Head of Service Alhaja Selimot Ottun have expressed concern over rate of domestic violence in families and society, attributing most of the causes to current economic situation and lost of moral values in Nigeria
They raised the concern in their separate remarks on Saturday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital during the 7th Annual Lecture jointly organized by S.A Rasheed Foundation and The Society of Muslim Professionals, where 27 beneficiaries including learners from public and private primary and secondary schools as well as individuals in some Muslim communities in the city were given a cash gift each
Guest Speaker at the event, Uztaz Jubril Lawal in his presentation on the theme of the lecture "Domestic Violence: A Pandemic Affecting Families And Communities", said domestic violence come in different forms in society and every individual including mother, father child could be victims of mental ,physical assault, or sexual molestation in homes
Quoting relevant chapters and verses in the holy Quran, he emphasized the roles of mothers in building peaceful homes and morally upright children in the society
The Cleric blamed the level of moral decadence in the country to broken homes and lost of moral values, urging Muslim families to be cautious of their spiritual lives by engaging themselves in regular supplication to Allah, aside the five daily prayers
He emphasized the need for women to respect their husbands while parents must have spirit of forgiveness and live a life worthy of emulation , so as to raise descent families that will be pride to Islam and society at large
Similarly Chief Imam of Ijaiyeland in Abeokuta, Dr Musbahudeen Musa-Olomu urged women to always be submissive, saying to manage crisis and prevent domestic violence, couple must be able to manage their differences, in order to ensure peaceful homes
Also speaking, the Chief Imam of the Society of Muslim Professionals, Imam Abdul-Wasiu Abubakr maintained both fathers and mothers must played their respective roles effectively and play supportive to each other, so as to avoid conflicts or domestic violence in families
Alhaja Selimot Ottun, the former Head of Service in Ogun State and Mother of the Day at the event who was represented by Mrs Rasheedat Awonuga , an Accountant at the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission, stressed the need for both huband and wife to treat each other with respect to avoid unnecessary conflicts
She equally admonished parents to avoid giving preferential treatment to male or female child in the family to prevent unhealthy rivalry in the family
Provost of Federal College Of Education, Osiele Abeokuta, Dr. Rafiu Soyele who was the Chairman of the event described the choice of theme for the annual public lecture as timely, considering the current economic situation in the country which accounted for most of the causes domestic violence between couples
The Chairman was represented by the Dean, School of Science in the college, Dr. Abdul-Gafar Busari, appreciated Alhaji S.A Rasheed whose foundation has been supporting the needs of less priviledged in the society
High point of the event was the symbolic presentation of cash gifts to the beneficiaries of the foundation by Chairman of Planning Committee, Akeem Towolawi
This year's beneficiaries included learners from AUD Primary School (1) and (2) ,Kemta Ilawo , AUD Grammar, Isaga , Solar Distinct Primary School, Solar Distinct College, Aminat International College, Methodist Primary School ( 1) and ( 2) , Ago-Oko, Juvenile Correctional Home, Asero, MSSN (FCE), Osiele , Islamic Youth League, Gbagura Youth League, Oke Temidire Muslim Community, Ijaye Muslim Community, Nuraindeen , SMP, Sabo Community and Olomore Community
Vice President of Society of Muslim Professionals , Alhaji Mikhail Anifowose had in his welcome speech , said that the foundation has been supporting learners and individuals in the society , including non-muslims
Facilitator of the foundation, Alhaji S.A Rasheed assured that the foundation would continue to provide a platform through the annual lecture for Muslims to gather and share experiences on how to move the Society forward
The event attracted Muslims leaders including, the State Secretary General of Muslim Council, Alhaji kamaldeen Akintunde, clerics,various Muslim women groups and learners from selected public and private primary and secondary schools in Abeokuta
