Minimum Wage: TUC Asks Ogun Govt To Fastrack Implementation For Workers As SSASCGOC Elects New Exco At OPIC

 




Trade Union Congress (TUC) has asked Ogun State Government to remove all the administrative bottleneck and fasttrack the process of implementation of the new N70,000 National Minimum Wage now being enjoyed by workers on the payroll of the Federal Government for the month of September 

The State Chairman of TUC, Comrade Akeem Lasisi made the call during Delegate Congress of Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation (OPIC) branch of (Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations And Government Owned Companies)SSASCGOC held over the weekend in Abeokuta, the State capital 

He stated that organized labour was fully prepared to meet with the State Government and finalize talks on the implementation of the new minimum wage and consequential adjustment for workers, based on the report of its technical committee and template released by the Federal Government 








"We are appealing to the Ogun State Government to fastrack the process of payment of the new minimum and consequential adjustment on various grades level, by removing all the administrative bottleneck in the implementation of the new salary package for workers on the payroll of the State Government", Lasisi stated 

The State TUC Chairman who was full of appreciation for the immediate past President of SSASCGOC branch at OPIC, Comrade Babatunde Falodun for running a rancour free tenure, urged the newly elected executive of the affiliate union to handle labour issues with maturity and shun all forms of unhealthy rivalry among members 

He urged them to give priority to welfare of members while engaging the management of OPIC 






Similarly representatives of the State Joint Negotiating Council Comrade Isa Olude, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment Generation and other prominent leaders of SSASCGOC, including Comrade Akin Okudero, a Public Relations guru, showered encomium on Comrade Falodun for his style of leadership, urging the newly elected executive of the union to sustain the tempo of industrial harmony while protecting the interest of their members 

The State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya assured organized labour of the readiness of government to ensure implementation of new minimum wage and consequential adjustment for workers on its payroll 

Onasanya who represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Bureau of Public Service Reform, Mr. Jola Oyeneye how urged workers to work harder to ensure more effective service delivery to the people




He enjoined them to always be available at their duty post in time, as to encourage government to do more for them in terms of incentives 

The HoS encouraged workers in the state to key into the State Health Insurance Scheme by paying monthly premium of N1,000 out of which 50 percent already paid by government to enable them enjoy comprehensive health care packages 

High point of the event was the election of the new executive for the union conducted by Secretary General of SSASCGOC, Comrade Michael Idoko on behalf of the President General, Comrade Kayode Alakija , after the dissolution of the Comrade Falodun led executive committee of the union 




Comrade Idris Adeniyi emerged as new President of SSASCGOC branch at OPIC while Comrade Tolu Kuti was elected Secretary and Gbenga Taiwo as Assistant Secretary amongst others 

Immediate past President of the branch, Comrade Babatunde Falodun speaking  with newsmen from the sidelines of the event, appreciated the Management of OPIC led by Managing Director, Arc. Abiodun Fari-Arole for ensuring industrial harmony during his tenure, particularly the prompt payment of salaries to workers 

He urged the new executive committee of the union to demonstrate high level of maturity, carry members along in decision making and shun devisive tendencies capable of destroying their tenure in office












He later presented constitution of the union to the newly elected Secretary to guide the activities for the next four years in office
