MAPOLY Gets N15m Laboratory, Workshop Equipments To Boost Skills Acquisition, ICT Training Of Students

Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Ojere in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital has taken delivery of equipments worth N15 million to further equip its Cenre for Skills Development Programmes, so as  to enhance the quality of training of the institution's students in Information and Communication Technology ICT, particularly those in the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Departments respectively 

Rector of the institution, Dr Adeoye Odedeji who revealed this to Edu-Biznews in an interview recently in his office, explained that  taken delivery of the equipments from Skill-G Nigeria Limited as funded by Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), would enable the polytechnic to effectively run National Skills Qualifications (NSQ )Framework  which is mandatory for accreditation of both National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) academic programmes by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in Nigeria 

He also said that the provision of the equipments would  make the implementation of unbundling of Computer Science programme at HND level by NBTE into specialized programmes in 'Artificial Intelligence', 'Networking and Cloud Computing', 'Software and Web Development' and Cyber security and Data protection seamless for the Ogun State Government owned premier polytechnic

He maintained the equipments would enable the polytechnic to train its engineering students in Robotics Engineering, which is Mechatronics to make them vast designing high level programming for automated machines that could be used in factories and hotels 

Dr Odedeji added that the equipments being installed at the Centre For Skills Development Programmes to make them accessible to all students to have their compulsory training in ICT and choice of vocational trades for their Certification in National Skills Qualifications NSQ on their graduation from MAPOLY while the centre would provide consultancy services and train  artisans on the latest technology in their respective vocational trades to bridge the existing wide gab between local artisans and foreign who are usually engaged as expartriates working on major construction sites in the country or factories 

"We want all our students to be computer literate as part of courses that must be offered at the Skills Development Programmes Centre while also providing consultancy services and training for local artisans and issued with NSQ Certificate with global recognition in the United Kingdom and United States and the rest of the world 

The Centre For Skills Development Programmes according to the Rector, are manned by Director of the centre and four other Co-ordinators  who had been trained as Quality Assurance Assessors to assess the competency of the trainees in various vocational trades including Plumbing, Building, Electrical Installation, GSM Repairs and ICT 

He disclosed that the institution is in  collaboration with global reputable ICT Institutions CISCO and Huawei for the training of its lecturers, technologies and instructors to prepare and update them with the latest technology on how to trained the students in various aspects of ICT 

The Rector further revealed that the N130million made available by TETFUND was being put to use for more equipments at the Skills Development Programmes Centre to enable the school commence full programmes at the centre
