In a bid to exploit unexplored areas of agricultural farming in the country, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta ( FUNAAB), has sought assistance of private sector partnership via signing of memorandum of understanding with a number of Companies as part of steps in utilising opportunities available to parties involved in the agreements.
According to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Olusola Babatunde Kehinde, with expanse of land and expertise available to his institution, it was beneficial to have these exchange for equipment and financing from the private sector to prosecute the agenda of agricultural revitalisation programme in tune with the focus of the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Prof. Kehinde disclosed that efforts in this path are being geared towards involvement in Coffee, Cocoa, Cashew, Oil palm and tree planting part from food crops like Soyabeans, locoust beans and cassava that are already planted in large hectares on the Campus through the partnership engagement.
He however, concluded that the planted crops have gestation period of maturity but of immense value to not only to the institution, but also, to the immediate Community and the nation in general.
It would be recalled that FUNAAB in recent times started harvesting of Cassava Yams ,Vegetables, Tomatoes and groundnuts amongst others crops with a view to providing solutions towards Nigeria's food crisis.
The Vice-Chancellor in an interactive session with the PR PRIMUS team said the new Agricultural Revitalisation Programme currently embarked upon by the University Management had tremendously brought down the prices of food items for the University community and its immediate environment, and that in due course, more yields are expected to flood Ogun and other states in Nigeria.
