Federal Government is concluding work on unveiling of an Anti- Piracy policy to protect the Nigeria's creative industry in the coming weeks , the Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hadjia Hannatu Musawa has revealed
The Minister who was speaking over the weekend in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital during the public presentation and formal launching of a book titled "My Nollywood Experience" written by Hon.Kehinde Soaga , a top movie producer, artist and presenter on television, expressed confidence that the proposed policy would put an end to disturbing trend of cases of pirated creative works in the country
She also assured that the inputs of veterans and artistes in the Nollywood industry would be included in the formulation of the proposed policy that would make piracy a thing of the past
The Minister who showered encomium on Soaga for documenting his over 40 years in Nigeria's film industry, also assured that her ministry would always carry along veterans in the creative industry in its activities to create an eco-system for vibrant and sustainable creative industry
She added that the Nollywood industry has the capacity to continue to make Nigerians happy by making them to laugh and overcome challenges of economic hardship being faced by them, citing notable movies with quality storylines and pictures including "Glamour Girls", "Black Box" amongst others that compete globally with those top movie industries in the world, Hollywood in the United States and Bollywood in India
Hadjia Musawa was full of appreciation for the author of the book describing the book as a testament of his dedication and unwavery commitment to the creative industry
"Your work is a testament to the creative innovations that we strive for in Nigeria as a country, we shall continue to encourage more people in the industry to write this kind of inspiring story"
The Minister then encouraged Nigerians to get a copy each of the book and see the Nollywood, Nigeria's film industry through the eyes of the author (Hon. Kehinde Soaga)
Earlier in his welcome, Soaga sharing his over four decades experience in the Nollywood , decried the Neglence of icons or veterans in the industry, stressing the need for establishment of Nollywood Think Tank by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to tap the untapped rich potentials in the industry
Soaga who attributed the recent top rating of Nigeria amongst the countries with happiest people on earth to the quality of films and entertainment being produced by the Nollywood industry, also called for a well established "Hall of Fame" by the ministry, where highly experienced and resourceful veterans in the movie industry will be appreciated
"We have resourceful people that can help in no small measure in moving the country forward ", he stated
High point of the event was formal presentation and launching of the book" "My Nollywood Experience" and presentation of special awards to some notable icons and artistes in the Nollywood industry
The Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi assured film makers and artists of enabling environment for the creative industry to always thrive
