Asaba 2024 NYG: Team-Ogun Badminton Players Shine, Clinch Two Gold, Two Silver.. Get Invitation To National Camp





Team Ogun on Thursday dominated badminton event at the just concluded 8th National Youth Games in Asaba, the Delta State capital, clinching two gold, two silver and a bronze to take the team's total medal haul to 37, finishing in the sixth position with 11 Gold, 11 Silver and 15 Bronze 

The Ogun Badminton team comprising of two boys, Edun David and Gbajobi lsreal as well as two girls Bello Naomi and Odunayo Omotayo who have been invited to the National camp, won a gold and silver in boys singles event and another gold in boys doubles event 

They also finished with a silver in girls double event and a bronze medal in mixed doubles event 

Host Team-Delta emerged third consecutive champions of the games with a total of 111 medals including 46 Gold, 31 Silver and 34 Bronze, Team-Lagos came second with 65 medals comprising of 26 Gold, 20 Silver and 19 Bronze while Team- Edo completed the top three with 62 medals including 19 Gold,15 Silver and 28 Bronze 

Bayelsa, Kwara and Ogun finished in fourth, fifth and sixth positions respectively at the end of the games 







Spokesperson of the State Sports Council, Bola Giwa who confirmed the invitation of the four badminton players to Edu-Biznews, said that the Acting  State Director of Sports, Mrs Oluwatoyin Alade was full of appreciation to the State Commissioner for Sports Development , Mr. Wasiu Isiaka and Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Comrade Lanre Ogunyinka in ensuring the gracious approval of fund by Governor Dapo Abiodun 

She attributed the feats recorded in the recently concluded badminton, shooting and other events to the prompt release of the needed fund which enable the young athletes to prepare adequately for the games 

She added that the instant cash reward further encouraged the young athletes to work harder on Thursday, winning five gold in a single day
