Plans have been concluded for the holding of 6th edition of the 2024 National Under 18-Boys Football Competition tagged: 'MKO Abiola Cup which kicks-off on Saturday, 31st of August in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital
The competition being organized by the Ogun State chapter of Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria, YSFON, will attract participants across the Six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
The Chairman of the group in the state, Alhaji Waheed Lawal who made this known to Sportswriters in Abeokuta, expressed concern over the set back experienced in organizing the competition, which he attributed to lack of funds and sponsorship in the past
He explained that arrangements had been concluded to stage the 6th edition of the tournament.
He explained competition was to honour the first Pillar of Sports in Africa, late Chief M.K.O Abiola for his contributions to the growth and development of sports in Nigeria and outside the shores of the country.
Alhaji Lawal said the competition will kick start at the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode and end up at MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta.
Alhaji Lawal who expressed confidence that the MKO Abiola Under-18 Cup had come to stay as an annual event, disclosed that plans were on to ensure that the Ogun State government adopt the competition.
He further appreciated the effort of the state and other key stakeholders in their efforts to ensure that the competition achieved the desired goals.
Other Executive members of the group in the state are Hon. Allen Taylor who is Vice Chairman; Mr. Kehinde Adeyemi, General Secretary; Coach Henry Oviawe, Technical Director; Mr. Kayode Shofolu, Organising Secretary and Alhaja Kudirat Odebiyi, Financial Secretary.
