Nigeria’s D’Tigress suffered a 74-88 in historic quarter-final defeat to the U.S. women’s basketball team at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Wednesday night.

The reigning African champions whose major strength has been more of physical play were however  intimidated by the powerhouse Americans as they traded buckets in the opening minutes.

The Rena Wakama tutored side had fell to the superior play of the Americans who won the first three quarters of the keenly contested game winning 26-17, 26-16 and 24-15, before the Nigerians came forcely into the game in the last and fourth quarter of the game winning 26-12 but not good enough to upturn the scores as they finally crashed out 74-88

D'Tigress despite the defeat became the only African side to have reached the last eight in the history of Olympic in basketball

The team enroute to the historic quarter final defeated highly respected Australian and Canadian sides and lost in-between the two games to France at the group stage of the ongoing Olympics

Jackie Young added 15 points and Breanna Stewart — another two-time WNBA MVP chipped in 13.

The US will face one of the D'Tigress victims, the third rated Australia in the semi-finals on Friday after the Opals saw off Serbia 85-67.
