Ogun State Government in partnership with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has trained 120, Education Officers, Technical Instructors and Training Service Providers (TSP) on Quality Assurance Assessment, as part of strategic moves to reposition the education sector with enhanced, competent and highly skilled workforce
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, during a two-week Quality Assurance Assessor Training, organised by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOES&T), in collaboration with NBTE and Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), at OgunTech Hub, Abeokuta, revealed this
He said that government had invested a lot on capacity building of officers for better results in the sector.
Prof. Arigbabu hinted that construction was ongoing in the seven technical colleges and one vocational centres across the state, in a bid to upgrade them to global standard and make them centres of excellence, while Principals in the eight colleges, policy makers and senior administrators were sponsored to Germany to effectively reposition the sector.
"We are focusing on our technical colleges to turn them to centre of excellence, where each will have peculiar area of focus that will give them locational advantage", he said.
The Commissioner charged the participants to be attentive so as to utilise knowledge gained in the discharge of their duties and future references.
On her part, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, identified skill development as a tool for technological and economic advancement of the state, as well as reduce unemployment among youths, enjoining the educators to take advantage of the training so that huge investment would not be a waste.
Speaking, the Executive Secretary of NBTE, Prof. Mohammed Mogaji, commended the state government for ensuring skills and manpower development, which had made the state stand out among comity of states in the country.
In his presentation, one of the resource persons, Engr. Segun Fatoki, stressed the need to transform the skill development sector, both at the state and national levels, to checkmate increased poverty rate, unemployment, low skilled master craft men, crime, youth restiveness and out-of-school children, among others.
Responding, two of the participants, Mr. IyanuOluwa Adewole and Mrs. Oyinade Idowu, appreciated government for the training, promising to put skills acquired at the training to good use.
