Ogun Doctors' Strike: Group Worries Over Situation In Public Hospitals, Wants Gov.Abiodun To Resolve Issues

Medical Doctors under the agies of Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners (ANPMP), has expressed concern over situation in public health facilities in Ogun State, following the ongoing indefinite strike by doctors on the payroll of the State Government who are demanding for implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Scale to put them at par with their colleagues in the Federal Government owned hospitals in the country 

The ugly development, according to the doctors has left many residents, especially the sick patients without access to medical healthcare in public health facilities 

Chairman, Ota Zone of the association, Doctor Oluseye Olufunso, appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to resolve the ongoing strike by doctors in the state- owned hospitals across the state.

Olufunso who was addressing newsmen on the sideline of a free medical outreach in Sango ota, described the strike as additional burden on the residents who are facing economic hardships.

Olufunso said that the governor must quickly address the demands of the striking medical doctors in order to restore normalcy in the healthcare sector in the state.

The association chairman added that there was need for government at all level to priortise the health sector through improved working conditions and welfare packages for the medical and health workers.

According to him, no fewer than 500 residents will benefit from the free medical care during the exercise which aims at educating the residents on the importance of regular health checks, particularly for hypertension, diabetes, dental care and other forms of diseases.

“many of these ailments which we pay little or no attention to are the reasons for sudden collapse of people which now leading to death”.

“Despite all these challenges, it is very unfortunate that our government still allow the medical doctors to embark on strike over their outstanding demands”.

Olufunso said the sudden collapse of people that lead to death can be put to check if people place premium on their health and the government makes access to healthcare services affordable, as well as free healthcare for the poor and vulnerable.

It will be recalled that medical doctors in ogun state-owned public hospitals on the 3rd of August, 2024 ,embarked on the indefinite to compel government to address the unresolved issues on pay disparity between federal and state medical workers.
