Nigeria's former president and Balogun of Owu, Olusegun Obasanjo and immediate former governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun have lauded the two-year reign of Olowu of Owu-Abeokuta kingdom, Oba (Prof.) Saka Adelola Matemilola, pledging more support for the monarch to consolidate on the achievements recorded in the education, health and empowerment initiatives which have transformed socio-economic lives of the people
The duo who are prominent sons of Owu made the pledge on Saturday during the colourful grand-finale of the second anniversary Coronation of Oba Matemilola held at Oba Odeleye Park Ori-Omi in Abeokuta, the State capital, where they also called on Owus at home and in diaspora to bury their differences and unit to jointly encourage the monarch to do more for the economic growth of communities in Owu
Obasanjo who is the prime minister of Owu-kingdom assured Olowu of his availability to give necessary assistance in the mobilization of every indigene of Owu-Abeokuta at home and diaspora to support the onerous task of fast tracking the development of the kingdom
The former president appreciated the presence of Olota of Ota , Oba (Prof.) Adeyemi Obalanlege for the joint cooperation between people of Ota and Owu-community in Ogun State
Similarly the former governor, Amosun described the choice of Oba Matemilola as a blessing to the Owu-Abeokuta kingdom, whose reign in the past two years has continued to encourage him and other prominent sons and daughters of Owu to do more for the development of Owu-community
The Olowu gave his royal blessings to all Owus, particularly the former president former governor, the State Commissioner for Forestry,Engr. Taiwo Oludotun amongst other prominent sons and daughters whom the monarch described as pillars of support for achievements recorded in the past two years of his reign
Oba Matemilola who called for more support to further transform the kingdom, then prayed for peace and unity in Ogun State and the country at large
The event was spiced up by a stage drama by Oluyalo Theatre Troupe on the importance of unity and peace in ensuring economic growth of any community
The theatre troupe later presented Olowu with a special gift to the admiration of those in attendance at the event
Different interest groups including members of Abeokuta Club, Islamic Humanitarian Society, members of various royal families, Chiefs in various Owu communities including Prince Alabi Adelanwa, Hon. Sikirulah Ogundele and Hon Johnson Olu-Fatoki who Eruwon people amongst others to pay homage to Olowu to congrat him on the second anniversary Coronation and 60th birthday holding on Sunday, 4th of August at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library OOPL in Abeokuta
