Ogun State House of Assembly has summoned the Chairman and members of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) to appear before the State lawmakers on the 3rd of September 2024 to give proper explanation on its activities and preparation for the coming Local government elections, particularly the introduction of payment of fees by political parties in the guidelines for the poll which is generating controversy among the opposition parties
The Speaker of the house, Right Honourable Oludaisi Elemide issued the summon, following the presentation of the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye, who raised the issue of payment of fees by political parties as rolled out by the State Independent Electoral Commission preparatory for the conduct of upcoming Local Government elections.
The Speaker later announced the stakeholders' forum on the State Power Sector Bill for Thursday, 5th September, 2024 commencing from 10.00am prompt.
One of the main opposition, Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) had threatened to go to court to seek order to declare the payment as illegal while several candidates in the opposition parties are also contesting the legality of such payment which the electoral agency described as administrative charges
