Federal Government has revealed its plan to begin upskilling and retraining teachers in technical colleges of education, ahead of introduction of new skills curriculum for secondary schools in Nigeria, expected to commence with new 2024/2025 academic session, beginning from next month, September
Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman made this known on Thursday in Abuja at a meeting with principals of federal technical colleges and other stakeholders on challenges and issues affecting skills development and acquisition in Nigeria
Technical colleges to the Minister, are essential in addressing skills gaps, as they offer hands-on training in various vocational fields, equipping students with practical skills.
Mamman who was speaking on the roles technical colleges play, stressed that the teaching of entrepreneurial skills in technical colleges would empower students to start their businesses, drive innovation and ensure economic growth.
“Technical colleges help address skills gaps by providing training, upskilling and reskilling programme"
“Collaboration with industries to ensure that students gain industry-relevant skills, making them employable. Technical colleges promote a culture of continuous learning, preparing students for a rapidly changing work environment", he stated
