Ogun Govt Promises Payment Of Stipends To Targeted 1,000 Girls Studying Engineering Trades In Technical Colleges



Ogun State Government has revealed that its scholarship offer to targeted 1,000 girls studying Engineering trades and other seemingly male dominated trades in the  State Government Technical Colleges across the State would be paid stipends for three years duration of their programmes in school 

The scholarship scheme which is a an initiative of  the World Bank under the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), is to encourage girls to venture into engineering related trades in Technical Colleges across the state 

The State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon.Adijat Adeleye announced the plan for payment of the stipends while disclosing the  details of scholarship package to the targeted beneficiaries, during an engagement with stakeholders at  Ijebu Ode Local Government's Hall

She urged  parents and guardians of female children to tap into golden opportunity for their Girl's.

She explained that the scholarship would cover cost of books, transportation, school supplies and stipend for 3 academic sessions .

On her part, the Project Coordinator, Mrs. Mosun  Owoodusi explained that Girl's technical education, especially in engineering related trades would close the gender gap being experienced in the labour market.

Represented by the Project Manager, Skills Development on the project, Mr. Fatai Osundanya, the Project Coordinator noted that girls could also do better for hands-on skills acquisition and that all 8 Technical college in Ogun State are being rehabilitated to standard. 

Also speaking, the Ag. Executive Secretary, Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board Akinleye further explained that admission forms could be obtained in any of the 8 State Technical Colleges across the State.

The team later took to the streets and markets of Ijebu-ode in a road show to sensitize the people on the scholarship 

Communication officer of OGSTEP, Mrs Olasinbo Olayinka stated this at the stakeholder's meeting that Technical education should not be alone for Boy's while Girl's can be versatile in lucrative handwork as well.

The Ogun State Technical college according to her, has been rehabilitated through the intervention of World Bank and Ogun State Government.

 “For us at OGSTEP, through the Scholarship and the provisions attached these would boast of female education and I believe in no distance time we will see overall parity closing completely”, Olasinbo stated
