Macjob Grammar School Old Students Association (MAGSOSA) has assured first set of 55 registered students for the coming 2024/2025 Academic Session of free uniforms , just as the association flagged off its Free Uniform Initiative on Wednesday with distribution of 100 units of uniforms to selected indigent and brilliant learners
National President of MAGSOSA, Abiodun Babajide who announced this during the official flag-off of the first phase of the Free Uniform Initiative, at the school's premises in Onikolobo area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, appreciated members for their commitment to the project, particularly the 1967-71 set whose Chairman, Chief(Mrs) Olabisi Olufade represented by Vice Chairman, Chief Wale Soyemi pledged additional donation of free uniforms for the alma- mater
He described the distribution of free uniforms to beneficiaries as investment in future of the alma- mater, saying the initiative is to ensure financial hardship does not affect the education of the students
"We are not just giving you uniforms; we are investing in your future. The first phase of our initiative will provide free uniforms to 100 students, with a focus on supporting 65% indigent students and 35% brilliant students. This approach ensures that financial hardship does not hinder your educational journey and that excellence is recognized and rewarded", the president stated
"Our gestures today are not just acts of charity but are rooted in the firm belief that by nurturing you, our future leaders, we are building a brighter tomorrow", he added
Babajide later highlighted some of the projects executed by the association including science laboratories, sickbay to provide first aid treatment to students, blocks of classrooms, water project and reconnection of the school to the national grid after many years of lack of public supply of electricity amongst others
"Our commitment to science education led us to renovate the science labs, providing a conducive environment for practical learning. -Construction of a Sick Bay: We built a well-equipped sick bay to attend to the health needs of our students promptly and efficiently"
"Hiring Private Teachers: To address the shortage of teachers, we have hired private teachers to complement the existing staff, ensuring that our students receive quality education"
"These projects reflect our unwavering commitment to the holistic development of Macjob Grammar School and its students. By introducing the benefits of the Old Students Association to you, dear students, we hope to inspire you to strive for excellence and to give back to your alma mater in the future", he charged the students
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu pledged Prince Dapo Abiodun's administration commitment to always encourage such initiative complimenting efforts of government at improving quality of education in the state
Arigbabu who was represented by Director of School Sports in ministry, Mr Olarotimi Okeleye lauded the association for numerous projects executed in the school to improve the quality of education
The commissioner accompanied by other top officials of the old students association of the school, later performed official launching of the Free Uniform Initiative
The State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, Comrade Hameed Benco-Ademola, who is a member of the 1987 set , assured the alma mater of continuous commitment of the association to provision of the needed physical infrastructure and other assistance to ensure the tradition of academic excellence in the school
The event attracted past presidents of the association and prominent members including Dr. Adewunmi Alayaki (former General Secretary of Nigeria Medical Association NMA) and Hon. Benjamin Ogunmodede, a respected lawyer and former member of the State House of Assembly amongst others
The event was spiced up with distribution of free uniforms to beneficiaries and displayed of cultural dance by students of the school to entertain the parents and invited guests
