For members of 1987 set of Macjob Grammar School Abeokuta Old Students Association, it was fun re-uniting together and celebrating four of their teachers, after 37 years of finishing from the school that laid a solid foundation for their respective individuals achievements
The set which produced the current Ogun State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Hameed Benco-Ademola, held its maiden Annual General Meeting and re-union on Saturday 13th of July, 2024 at a serene hall of Academy Suite in Abeokuta, the State capital, admidst pump and pageantry, where they appreciated their teachers including Pastor Kuye, Chief Olufemi Soluade, Mrs Olubukola Fashanu and Mrs Olufunmilayo Masominu
National President of MAGSOSA , Babajide Abiodun was full of appreciation for the outstanding contributions of members of the set he described as the fastest growing among the existing 25 sets produced by the school so far
The set according to him, started making serious impact on the Infrastructural development of school and providing useful advices for the growth of the old students association within six months of coming together
He tasked members of the set to do more for the growth of the school, by keying into the association's agenda of
ensuring that every set renovates each of the 18 classrooms that requires serious rehabilitation
The National President equally urged them to be part of the free uniforms initiative to support the education of their alma mater who are from less priviledged homes
Chairman of the set, Dr. Omosalewa Oyewole declaring the maiden AGM, Open , was full of excitement, meeting and re-uniting with fellow classmates
Omosalewa later in an interview with Edu-Biznews on the sidelines of the event, said the set was able to renovate class teachers staffroom, Vice-Principal's office and that of the bursar of the school amongst others achievements within the two years of coming together
She added that the set and other sets of the old students association of Macjob Grammar School contributed seriously to the Infrastructural development of the school, including engagement of teachers on temporary basis to compliment the existing teachers in preparing students for external examination such as West African Senior School Certificate Examination WASSCE which helped them a lot to do well in the examination
Omosalewa however promised that the set would embark on a big project to mark the 40th anniversary of leaving the school
She described the AGM as a rare opportunity which rekindled the old memories of members of the class and provide avenue to re-unite and know more about different occupations and businesses of one another and how members can uplift or support themselves to grow
Chairman of the AGM, Engr. Abimbola Taiwo described the event as very successful, expressing satisfaction with the turn out of members of class 87 Set
Taiwo described the success of the event, as an eye opener for other members of the set to be part of the subsequent editions
He was confidence that the set would go places, considering the commitment of members to development of their alma mater and the school
Highpoints of the event included cutting of the 37th anniversary cake of the set and the presentation of special awards to teachers including Pastor Kuye who taught the class Mathematics and Physics, Chief Soluade who was in charge of Government subject, Mrs Olubukola Fashanu (Literature in English)
and Mrs Olufunmilayo Masominu who taught the set Biology and Health Science subjects
The teachers took turns to appreciate the awards given to them by their students after almost four decades of impacting useful knowledge in them
