One of Nigeria's leading secondary schools, Brightway College in Lafenwa, Abeokuta , the Ogun State capital celebrated in grand-style , the outstanding performances of its students who wrote this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) conducted by National Examination Council (NECO) for candidates in Junior Secondary School class three across the country
Principal of the college, Mr. Imoneye Soneye Esq announcing the details of the results recently released by NECO during its 8th Valedictory Service for graduating students of both JSS Class and Senior Secondary School Class held on Tuesday, said candidates from the school recorded impressive 96 percentage pass in Mathematics and 80 percentage pass in English language while average of over 75 percentage pass rate were achieved in eleven other subjects
For instance, he said the school's, candidates recorded another massive 96 percent rate in Yoruba language, French (80%), Business Studies (92%), Bible Knowledge (100%), Islamic Religion Knowledge (85%), History (80%) and Pre-vocational Education (76%) amongst others
He attributed the impressive performance recorded by the school to uncompromised quality education being provided by the college
He urged the graduating students of Junior Secondary School and their counter-part in the Senior Secondary School to make the quality of education acquired in the college functional by confronting headlong the challenges and surmounting them
The highly elated principal who lauded the effort of the proprietor, Hon.Abayomi Whyte for creating conducive learning environment for the students to excel in their educational pursuits , was full of appreciation for parents who invested substantially in the education of graduating students of the college
He appealed to those whose children are still in the college to do more by providing all the needed learning materials for their children at the same monitor their activities in school to enhance academic performances
The event which also marked the 27th anniversary of Bright International School, had in attendance, a retired Permanent Secretary, Mrs Bosede who spoke on the theme of this year's Valedictory Service "Child Upbringing Disparity Between Punishment and Discipline In The Home, At School And In The Society", stressed the need for parents to differentiate how to discipline and punish a child to ensure a proper upbringing of a child
The former Zonal Education Officer emphasized the importance of parents being a good role model for their children while growing up
Parents according to the guest speaker, must set grand rules that must be followed by every child at home, to instil discipline and moral values in such a child that would make him or her to excel in education and make positive impact in the society at large
The 2024 graduating students of the school's Junior Secondary class later presented special gifts to the Proprietor/Director of the school, Hon. Yomi Whyte for providing conducive for their successes in BECE
The proprietor then announced scholarship award for Primary five pupil, Testimony, an Orphan who emerged as overall best pupil in her class, winning several prizes
He called on other stakeholders to compliment the effort of the school at encouraging the little girl to succeed in her future, after completion of her primary education at the school on scholarship
Similarly Whyte appealed to parents to take a cue from the lessons of theme by differentiating discipline from punishing a child to avoid raising a child that would later become nuisance to the society
He reminded parents that the best legacy they could give to any child is investment in qualitative education
Highpoints of the event included presentation of prizes to pupils with outstanding academic performances and displayed of various cultural dances in Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa as well as exhibition of inventions by the students of the college
