11th Africa University Games: LASU Ready To Accommodate, Protect 1,500 Athletes- VC Assures




Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University Ojo, Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello has expressed readiness of the university as co-host of the forthcoming 11th Africa University Games, to accommodate and ensure safety of 1,500 of the athletes expected to participate in the continental sports fiesta 

The Vice- Chancellor gave the assurance while hosting officials of the Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) and the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) who were recently at Ojo main campus of the university on  a two-day facilities inspection visit  to ascertain LASU's readiness to co-host the 11th All Africa University Games tagged *Lagos 2024*.
  



  


The university according to her, has hostel facilities to accommodate about 1,500 student athletes at the university. Furthermore

she revealed plans by the university to treat athletes to some of the finest tourist attractions in Lagos State.

 She also assured of the safety of lives and properties of the athletes and officials following her meeting on Tuesday, with the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Fayoade Adegoke. 


While unveiling the university's plan of action to host what she described as "...the best FASU Games ever," the Vice Chancellor, averred that in addition to steps already taken, plans are underway to upgrade the university's facilities 

She noted that branding and publicity activities by the responsible teams have commenced. 

At the end of the visit, which held at the Vice Chancellor's Conference Room, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, the officials embarked on the Inspection tour, covering earmarked facilities in the university, led by the Vice Chancellor and the alternate Chairman, Prof. Adenike Boyo. 








Places visited included the FASU Games Secretariat on the 5th Floor of the Senate Building, the Academic Resource Centre, the LASU Sports Centre, the Femi Gbajabiamila Conference Centre and the new Students Hostels, all of which will host one activity or the other during the games.

LASU is scheduled to co-host the competition with the University of Lagos (UNILAG) from *20th to 29th September 2024
