Ogun State Government has sealed a tyre recycling company, Gande Limited at Siun in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, over alleged environmental infraction.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor on Environment, Hon. Farouk Akintunde who doubles as the Chairman of Special Taskforce on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement in the state gave the order during an enforcement tour of the town
The company according to him, was found culpable of operating without adhering to environmental regulations thereby endangering the lives of people in the community.
"Following a tip-off from the residents of the community that the company emits carbon- monoxide which is hazardous to health, prompted immediate action by the taskforce to embark on the tour and shut down the company", he explained
"Lives of their host community should be a major priority to them as they need to desist from practices that can be injurious to people’s health and affect businesses"
Akintunde added that the present administration in the state would not take it easy with any environmental law defaulter as it want industries that domiciles in the state to operate in the best global environmental standards.
Also speaking during the sealing exercise, Director, Special Duties and Climate Change in the Ministry of Environment,Mr. Tunji Egbemuyiwa, described the operating environment of the company as being harmful to the health of its workers and the community urging residents to always report any environmental infractions within their localities to the appropriate quarters to avert environmental disaster.
