Labour leaders in various affiliates of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Ogun State council have been charged to always lead by example and provide leadership that is transparent and accountable to workers in the state
State Chairman of NLC, Comrade Hameed Benco-Ademola gave the charge on Wednesday in Abeokuta, during opening day of a two-day Harmattan Ogun NLC Leadership Retreat for leaders in various affiliates of the union
"We must must lead by example, embodying the values of transparency, accountability and ethical conduct" , he charged participants
According to him, " leadership in trade is not merely about holding a title or position-it is about serving with integrity, empathy and a relentless commitment to the well-being of our members. It is about being the voice of the voiceless, standing up for fairness and advocating for just and equitable working conditions. It is about fostering a culture of collaboration, empowerment and inclusivity"
He encouraged leaders of the affiliated unions to be prepared for challenges ahead, saying they must be courageous and innovative in addressing the realities of such challenges
"We will encounter challenges and obstacles, but it is during these times that our leadership will be tested. Let us remember that adversity is an opportunity for growth, Innovation and resilience. Let us embrace change, adapt to new realities and lead with courage and determination" , Benco-Ademola admonished them
He however called on the leadership of various affiliates to always bring any of the labour issues that has been externalized to the attention of the State Council of NLC with the aim of resolving such issue
High point of the opening session was the presentation of awards to Governor Dapo Abiodun as labour friendly governor, to the Secretary to the State Government,Mr Tokunbo Talabi for his exemplary leadership and the State Head of Service,Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun for being a legacy builder
