Federal Government of Nigeria has been asked to use its rich diverse tourism potentials and cultural values and traditions to network with other countries of the world.
Canada Deputy High Commissioner, Aly Shaffy made the call during a one-day Cultural Bazaar, at the Canada High Embassy Commission in Lagos, saying Nigeria and Canada share strong bilateral ties.
She noted that one of the key objectives of the Consular was to promote networking through cultural diversity and increased outreach by bringing different states in the country and stakeholders in the sector together at the event which aimed to promote tourism, culture and rich traditions of Nigeria, while fostering co-operation between Canada and Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of the Ogun State Ministry of Culture and Tourism at the event, Director, Visual Arts Department, Mr. Emmanuelle Ikuwe, said the state was ready to key into any event that would explore and showcase the exceptionally rich cultural heritages inherent in the state, adding that the programme was a formidable platform with the potential for fusion, interaction and cultural exchange, among others.
" This Bazaar, organised by the Canada High Embassy Commission is very commendable. It is a formidable platform form of expression of rich cultural heritage among Nigerian states and international communities; it is more exposing, as well as enlightening. For instance, in visit to other stands, we have seen and learnt other packaging ways we will adopt, replicate even better for our subsequent exhibitions and outings, to bring glory to the state at large and not just the Ministry", he said.
On his part, the Olu of Orile-Ilawo, Oba Prof. Olusegun Macgregor, stated that Canada was the most multicultural society in the world, as the country placed much emphasis on cultural exchange which was evident through the cultural Bazaar organised by the Commission.
Macgregor, who commended the organisers for the laudable event, charged the Canadian Embassy to fraternise more with Nigerians, to effectively project and exchange cultures with Canadians abroad.
Popular Musician, King Ayinde Wasiu, charged the royal fathers present and Nigerians to join hands in promoting and networking culture to the global world, as there were more areas to explore and improve Nigeria and African traditions and relationships with Canada, urging Nigerians to proudly identify with the country at the international level.
The Bazaar featured an array of cultural activities such as traditional dance performances, traditional crafts exhibitions, music performances, as well as traditional cuisines from participating states of Ogun, Delta, Rivers and Ekiti.
