Police Machines have emerged champions of the 2023 Value Jet/Ogun SWAN Security Cup, after third consecutive final in the competition, beating hard fighting Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) via 6-5 penalty shoot out
Both sides had ended the regulation time on goal less in the keenly contester final played on Sunday inside main-bowl of the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Kuto Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital
The Nigeria Police Force side eventually emerged victorious after the penalty shoot out to avenge the defeat they suffered in the first edition of the competition
Earlier, the Nigeria Correctional Service team had won the third place match without playing a ball, following the last minute pull out by the defending champions Nigeria Custom Service
The Ogun State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon Wasiu Isiaka lauded the organizers of the competition pledged the support of the state to the subsequent editions of the competition
He added that the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration would continue to invest heavily in provision of the needed equipments and upgrading of existing facilities in all the stadia in, Ilaro, Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu and Abeokuta, the state capital ahead of the forthcoming 22nd National Sports Festival holding in the state come 2024
The Commissioner also expressed the readiness to revive Gateway Tertiary institutions Games, Principal Cup among secondary schools to encourage grassroots sports development
Also speaking, the State Chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) , Comrade Azeez Michael Ogunsiji assured participating teams of a better package in the coming edition while announcing the intention of the association to organize another competition in tennis and boxing
He commended Value Jet airline for its corporate support to the successful completion of the competition which attracted several notable security and safety agencies
