Ogun State Institute of Social Development, Shasha in Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area of the state, is to be given a facelift and upgraded from a certificate-awarding institution to a National Diploma, in order to achieve its set objective as a citadel of Social Development in Nigeria
The State Commissioner for Community Development, Alhaji Ademola Balogun who disclosed this during an inspection tour of the Institute , described the condition of the 67-year-old institution as worrisome
He promised to pursue its upgrading so as to engender a new dawn in the annals of the school.
"I will do everything within my power to restore the dignity of this Institution. This is one of the legacies left behind by Baba late Chief Obafemi Awolowo. I will not allow this legacy Institution to lag behind in the area of infrastructural development", Balogun assured
He commended the staff of the institute for their dedication, particularly towards maintaining academic standards, in spite of the daunting challenges confronting it, assuring that the present administration would also look into possible ways of improving the overall welfare of staff, as well as making learning conducive for students.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Fatai Ogunlana said the intervention of the State Government would restore the lost glory of the school and make it a reference point, among other higher institutions in the country.
He pointed out that the school had raised many important personalities in leadership upon its affiliation with Ogun State University now Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye.
In his remark, the Principal of the school, Mr. Olusola Agboyin, appreciated the Commissioner for paying them a visit within the shortest time of his assumption of office.
He solicited prompt intervention to improve the infrastructural challenges confronting the school, among others.
