Ogun Assembly Confirms Adijat Adeleye-Oladapo, Eight Other Commissioner Nominees As Gov.Abiodun Withdraws Nomination Of Oshunbiyi Tunde

Ogun State House of Assembly has confirmed and ratified the nomination of nine commissioner-nominees  of the ten sent to it recently for consideration and approval, as Governor Dapo Abiodun suddenly withdrew the nomination of Mr. Oshunbiyi Tunde

The approved nominees during the house plenary on Tuesday in Abeokuta, include five returnees Hon. Adeleye-Oladapo Adijat, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun, Hon. Ilori-Oduntan Olufemi, Engr. Dairo Oluwagbenga and Mr. Oresanya Oladimeji and four new names, Hon. Owootomo Bolu, Hon. Balogun Ademola, Mr. Fagbayi Sesan and Mr. Sofela Adebola Emmanuel

The approval of the nominees,followed the adoption of the report of the Committee of the Whole  House chaired by the Speaker, Right Honourable  Olakunle Oluomo as presented by his Deputy,  Bolanle Ajayi, who thereafter moved the motion for its adoption,  which was seconded by Lukmon Atobatele.

The confirmation of the nominees was thereafter done through a motion moved by the Majority Leader,  Yusuf Sheriff and seconded the Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye and supported by the Whole House through a unanimous voice vote at the plenary presided over by Rt. Hon. Oluomo at the Assembly Complex, Oke-iMosan,  Abeokuta. 

According the report, "the Committee found the nominees eligible and suitable to assume the exalted office of State Commissioner in Ogun State as some of them had undergone the same process in the House before their previous appointment in the State."

The house has so far confirmed the nomination of 17names as Commissioner Designates waiting to be assigned port-folio and sworned in by Governor Abiodun 

In another development, the lawmakers deliberated on two bills including Obas and Chiefs' (Amendment) Law, 2023 and Ogun State Commercial Vehicles and Trucks Law, 2023, with a view to repositioning the State traditional councils and State transport sector for efficiency and effective service delivery.

The Lawmakers who spoke on the bill titled H.B. No. 001/OG/2023- A Bill for a Law to Amend the Obas and Chiefs, Council of Obas and Traditional Council Law of Ogun State, 2021 said that the bill had become necessary to regulate the practice and conducts of all categories of monarchs and Chiefs in the State.

Those who spoke in unison in favour of the bill titled H.B No. 008/OG/2023- A Bill for a Law to regulate the operation of Commercial Motorcycle, Tricyle, Trucksand other means of public transportation in Ogun State and for connected purposes, opined that the bill would enhance safety of both riders and operators while promoting improve revenue in the transportation sector, especially for the Local Government councils. 

In his response, Speaker Oluomo commended the lawmakers for their contributions to the bills, saying that the proposed framework would promote peace, boost security network while creating room for accredited insurance scheme for operators in the transport sector.

Oluomo therafter committed the two bills to the House Committees on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs as well as that of Transportation respectively for further legislative actions.

Meanwhile, the lawmakers observed a minute silence in honour of one of the Assembly’s staff Mr. Olusegun Alase,who passed on early today.
