Ogun State Government has tasked leaders of the traditional religion to always promote peace, unity and orderliness between their followers and members of other religious groups through their practices.
The Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, made this call at Ake Palace after a visit by traditionalists in the state to their sacred grove at Oke Abola in Oke-Aregba, Abeokuta as part of activities to commemorate the maiden edition of "Isese Day" celebration in Ogun State.
She added that the celebration was another testament to the genuine commitment of present administration to inclusivity and with a stern belief in upholding cultural values, traditions and religions as long as they do not pose a threat to the unity or peaceful co-existence within the State.
In a related development, the Director of Tourism Development and Promotions, in the Ministry, Mrs. Ronke Peters, speaking at the Agasa Po-Ohepo Isese festival in Ipokia Local Government, urged traditionalists to seize the opportunity of the celebration of Isese day to propagate the preservation of "our cultural heritage and passing it on to future generations to prevent its extinction".
In his contribution at the event, President, Agasa Po-Hepo, Chief Zogi Ahiwusinu, expressed the appreciation of traditionalists in the state to the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration for fulfilling his promise and unwavering support towards engendering the annual celebration of the festival.
Similarly, the Day was celebrated at Ibogun, Ifo Local Government Area of the State, where the Olu of Ibogun Balogun, Oba (Dr) Ifakayode Faluade, called on traditionalists to use the occasion of Isese Day to pray for peace, tranquility and unflinching love for one another among the people irrespective of their differences.
He applauded Prince Dapo Abiodun for declaring a Work Free Day to celebrate the Day annually.
It is noteworthy that the celebration of Isese Day was held simultaneously across the state with adherents and faithful from major Ogun communities flocking to their shrines to worship their deities, ushering in the new year while offering prayers for both the state and the country at large.
