Ogun YSFON Revives MKO Abiola U-18 Football Tourney... Over 30 States Competing





Over 30 States across the country are competing for honour at the  resulcitated MKO Abiola National Under 18 Boys Football Competition being repackaged by the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) in Ogun State,to appreciate the immeasurable contributions of the late Pillar of Sports in Africa 


The State  Chairman of YSFON , Alhaji Waheed Kashimawo Lawal who revealed this over the weekend at a media briefing in Abeokuta, also disclosed that twelve  states comprising of two from the six geo-political zones would qualify to participate in the main competition holding in Ogun State between August 20 and 26 

According to him, preliminary round for the youth tournament will hold at Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode between August 20 and 25 while final comes up at MKO Abiola International Stadium in Kuto, Abeokuta 


Lawal who doubles as President of All Stars Football Club, Abeokuta added that there would be novelty football match between the club and the State chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN on the 24th of August to mark Post homous birthday of MKO Abiola 

He added that the competition which started since 2000 ,was last held in 2006, saying the tournament is being
 repackaged to honour Late MKO Abiola who contributed so much to the growth of football in the country and entire continent of Africa

The YSFON boss said that the Ogun State Government,  Hon. Kunle Soname ,founder of Remo Stars FC of Ikenne-Remo and other stakeholders would bankrolling the competition

Also speaking the State Secretary of YSFON, Coach Kehinde Adeyemi said national teams coaches and that of YSFON academy would be on ground to nuture and polish raw talents discovered during the competition

On how to detect age cheat before the competition, he said that YSFON had put in place mechanism to fish out over age players 

Adeyemi, a football psychologist and Director of Sports at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye added that draw for the competition would hold on August 19 in Ijebu-Ode on arrival of participating 12 states who emerged from the zonal qualifiers

Other executive members of YSFON at the media briefing included Vice-chairman, Hon.Femi Allen-Taylor, Alhaja Kudirat Odebiyi and Assistant Secretary, Ahmed Fatai
