Ogun State Government has conducted a screening exercise for teachers and schools of various categories in the State for the forthcoming 2023 Presidential Excellence Award in Nigeria's education sector
Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye while speaking. in Abeokuta during the exercise, explained that the purpose of the screening was to provide opportunities for stakeholders in public and private schools to contest for the award of excellence
She added that successful participants would represent the State at National Finals award based on five categories which include, Best Teacher (Public Primary, Junior and Senior Schools), Best School (Public Primary, Junior and Senior Secondary Schools).
Others are Best Administrator, (Public Primary, Junior and Senior Secondary Schools), Best Teacher, (Private Primary and Secondary Schools) and Best School, (Private Primary and Secondary Schools),
Represented by the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mrs. Abosede Edun, Ogunleye said, "The award was part of the reform programme on the adoption of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO landmark recommendation on the Rights, Responsibilities, Remuneration and Overall Status of Professional Teachers".
On his part, the Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, Comrade, Dr. Felix Agbesanwa applauded the Ministry for a free and fair exercise, saying it would serve as motivation to teachers to continue to put in their best in teaching professions.
Two of the participants, Messers Musiliu Aderibigbe and Temitope Olaoluwa from Ahmadiyya Comprehensive High School, Ogun Waterside and Akin Ogunlesi from Model Secondary School, Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Areas respectively, commended the Ministry for the credibility and transparency displayed during the screening exercise.
