New IGP Vows To Chase Criminals Away From Nigeria Like A Tiger




Newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun has likened himself to a Tiger who is ready to chase away all the criminals in Nigeria. 

Egbetokun who was speaking with State House correspondents on Tuesday in Abuja after his decoration with the rank of IGP, .expressed his feelings about his new responsibility

The new IGP expressed his readiness to take over from the outgoing IGP Alkali Baba  this Wednesday by 11 am.

“I will tell you that right now, I feel like a Tiger inside of me ready to chase away all the criminals in Nigeria. And some other time, I feel like a lion in me ready to devour all the internal enemies of Nigeria.", he added

Vice President Kashim Shettima had earlier decorated the newly-appointed IGP with his new rank at a short ceremony at the Presidential Villa, Abuja 

Shettima was assisted by Egbetokun’s spouse, Mrs Egbetokun at the event witnessed by senior government officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume; Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma; the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu; and the outgoing Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba.

Egbetokun who had earlier served as Police Commissioner in Lagos State
replaces Baba, who was appointed as the IGP by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2021.

It will be recalled that the outgoing IGP Baba was also decorated with his new rank in 2021by the immediate past Vice President Yemi Osinbajo

Egbetokun was  appointed as Acting IGP on Monday, 19th of June, 2023 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is now in France with other world leaders for global summit
