Ogun TESCOM Trains 586 Schools VPs... Focuses On Leadership Skills

 

Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has trained 586 Vice Principals of secondary schools across Remo, Ijebu, Yewa and Egba educational divisions of the State with the aim of building their capacity for administrative and leadership positions to enable them effectively run secondary  education in the State.

 Chairman of the Commission, Evang. Olalekan Ifede speaking during opening of a 2-day leadership training at the ICT Polytechnic, Saapade,

explained that the capacity building was to advance the leadership and management skill of vice principals of secondary schools towards improved productivity 

He added that the training was targeted at VPs to prepare them for future positions as school principals.

 Ifede, who spoke on the theme of the event tagged: ‘’New Leadership and Management Strategies in Pursuit of Positive Change in Public Secondary Schools’’, noted that the school administrators were expected to evolve with time and embrace new trends to sharpen their skills as they advance.

He emphasised the need to have a growth mindset as education is highly dynamic, noting that ‘’strategic leadership and management are key to better educational advancement in our State, hence, the essence of widening the horizon of the Vice Principals from now on, with the knowledge to do and deliver better on their jobs’’.

 Earlier in his address, the Permanent Secretary, TESCOM, Dr. Abdul Waheed Olanloye, said the event was strategically put together to improve overall productivity, adding that the training would cover, personnel health, leadership, and administration in public secondary schools, charging them to make the best use of the training.

 In his presentation on the topic,’’ Enhancing Personal Productivity,one of the facilitators, a Consultant Family Physician, State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, Dr. Adebimpe Ajetumobi, said age demography of the Vice principal should imbibe the culture of eating natural foods, fruits, and vegetables, exercise regularly, reduce red meat intake, to enable them to perform optimally in the discharge of their duties as educationists and school administrators.

In their remarks, some of the participants who are Vice Principals, Muslim High School, Ago Iwoye, Mr. Taiwo Oshodipe, Christ Church High School, Junior, Sabo, Ijebu-Ode, Mrs. Tiwalade Osinunlu appreciated the Commission for the training, promising to utilise the knowledge gained for the enhancement of educational development of the State.
