Presidential hopeful of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) former Vice-President, Abubakar Atiku has assured lecturers and students in Nigeria's public universities and other tertiary institutions that his administration would inject more fund into the education sector to provide the necessary infrastructure and ensure adequate welfare packages for both academic and non-academic to put an end to frequent strike in the system, if elected at the February 25, 2023 presidential election
Atiku who was speaking on Wednesday with stakeholders at a town-hall meeting in Abeokuta as part of his campaign tour to Ogun State, expressed concern over the decay of laboratories and facilities in tertiary institutions, particularly the universities
"We are going to improve on the laboratories and other facilities at public universities and ensure adequate welfare of our lecturers . Education is a very important sector ,we will give serious attention to, this is very sector of our national growth", he assured
He promised the organized labour that the economy would be expanded to create more employment opportunities for teeming unemployed Nigerians and Improve their standard of living
Atiku equally assured members of Nigeria Medical Association NMA of expansion in provision of primary health care facilities to make health care delivery more available to people across the country
Later at the Alake Palace Ground in Abeokuta, he urged electorates at a mega rally to vote for him as well as the governorship candidate of the party, Honourable Oladipupo Adebutu and other candidates of PDP for the National and State House of Assembly, promising to explore huge minerals deposit in the state to further industrialize it
He tasked members to deliver their respective polling units to the party for them to be recognized for any appointments or reward with contract, if the party wins
Those who attended the mega rally included three governors, Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Emmanuel Udom (Akwa-Ibom) and Right Honourable Aminu Tambuwal(Sokoto) , former Vice President, Namadi Sambo, former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, National Chairman of the party, Dr. Iyorcha Ayu, former governors, Olagunsoye Oyinlola(Osun), Liyel Imoke(Cross River) and Sule Lamido (Jigawa ) amongst other dignitaries
