No fewer than 19 successful bids have been received by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on the sales of forfeited landed properties as at Monday, the final day of the bidding excercise in Abuja, the Nigeria's capital city
The anti- graft agency had secured the court's judgement for the forfeiture of properties fraudelently acquired by some corrupt individuals
The landed properties located in different parts of the country, were forfeited to the federal government, being proceeds of crimes established
EFCC also received fresh bids same day from interested individuals for all the unsold properties in lots 4,5,6,7,8 and 9, where 19 successful bidders emerged before the close of sales at about 8:40 pm.
Henry Udeme,who emerged as one of the winners, speaking with newsmen, commended the EFCC for its transparency in the exercise
“The exercise on Monday is commendable, I have been coming here since last week to represent my boss, but we won today”, he stated
“I like the fact that it is transparent, I want the EFCC to extend this transparency to help Nigeria in other areas because so many people are looking up to the Commission.”
Director of Proceeds of Crime Department, EFCC, Yusuf Aliu, who spoke on behalf of the Secretary to the Commission, George Ekpungu, thanked all participants and congratulated the winners.
Aliu said, “I want to appreciate you all for making this exercise a success, I congratulate the winners, and I also want to ask them to cooperate by making payments before the 15 days deadline, otherwise, we will give it to the next highest bidders". Aliu stated
“As for the ones we couldn’t conclude today their sales tonight, we will get back to the public on our decision on them, thank you.”, he concluded
