Methodist Primary School Fadage team have emerged champions of a maiden edition of Honourable Oludaisi Elemide Football Tournament for primary schools in Odeda Constituency of the Ogun State House of Assembly
The Methodist boys defeated Community Primary School Ilupeju 5-4 via penalties after both sides had ended the final played on Tuesday at the playing ground of OLG Primary School, Itesi, Ajegunle in one-all
Third placed OLG Primary School, Alagbede , FUNAAB being presented with award by the Odeda LGA Chairman, Hon. Folasade Adeyemo

Earlier OLG Primary School, Alagbede near Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta FUNAAB clinched the third place position with a lone-goal win over Itesi Ajegunle Primary School
Hon. Elemide in a chat with Edu-Biznews.com, explained that the competition was initiated to discover and develop talents in rural communities of his constituency
“We believe there are hidden talents in rural areas that should be discovered and developed, we don’t want such talents to rot away ,we want them to expose these talents to competition”, he stated
He revealed that outstanding players in the competition would be invited to form team for the local government where they would be spotted by the Nigeria Football Federation NFF through Ogun State Football Associaation, local football clubs and those interested in providing scholarship for them to further their education and promote their career in football
The lawmaker also unfolded future plan to sponsor similar grassroots competition in athletics for discovery of more raw talents in sports
Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Olakunle Oluomo showered encomium on Hon.Elemide for supporting discovery and development talents in his constituency, urging other lawmakers to emulate him
Oluomo later announced cash donations of N20,000 to each of the teams in the semi-finals of the competition and another N20,000 to the organizers of the tournament
Also speaking , Chief of Staff to Governor Dapo Abiodun's Chief of Staff , Alhaji Shuaib Afolabi Salis who is from Odeda Local Government Area lauded the talents exhibited by the promising players from both schools while appreciating Hon.Elemide for initiating the competition among primary schools in the Local Government Area
He added that the players demonstrated spirit of team work which according to him, is a reflection of “Building Our Future Together” agenda of the Abiodun’s administration and urged people of Odeda to continue to promote unity among themselves
Salis later announced cash donations of N50,000 to the winners of the competition while runners up and third placed teams got N30,000 and N20,000 respectively
Chairman of Odeda Local Government ,Hon. Folasade Adeyemo presented awards to the tournament’s most valuable player, highest scorer and best goal keeper while appreciating the sponsor for his commitment to development of sports in the area
Other dignitaries at the final included members of the State House of Assembly, Director of the State Sports Council , Mrs Iyabode Rotimi, Chairman of the State wing of Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT, Comrade Akinola , royal fathers and , representative of Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board amongst others
