Ogun State Government has charged professionals in the Real Estate business,to follow due process before embarking on any development,in order to ensure strict compliance to the layout plan of the state
The State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tpl. Olatunji Odunlami gave the charge at the official launching of Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), Ultra-Modern office, Ogun State Chapter, at OPIC Tower in Abeokuta, the state capital
He said that government remained undaunted to curbing illegal structure, indiscriminate building and constructions, to check the proliferation of slums in the State.
Tpl. Odunlami, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Tpl. Yetunde Dina, said the government has the responsibility to safeguard the serenity of the environment, noting that many developers were in the habit of advertising landed properties for sale, without obtaining necessary approval from the State government.
Highlighting the procedures to follow, Tpl. Odunlami said “before purchasing any landed property, prospective Developer must approach the Bureau of Lands and Survey, to verify before making payment. Also, members of the public should know that residential estates cannot be sited indiscriminately, because some areas have been designated as non-residential, while some are Committed Government Acquisitions”.
He added that it was only when all the processes had been duly followed and ascertained, that prospective buyers or developers could approach the Ministry or other registered Town Planning Consultants for layout design, which would be presented for approval, enjoining those yet to obtain Layout Approval to do so, to avoid sanctions by the State government.
In his address, the State Secretary, REDAN, Mr. Babatunde Adeyemo assured of the Association’s readiness to abide by the rules and regulations guiding estate development.
