Over 66 per cent of the external candidates who sat for the 2020 Senior School Certificate Examination conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO),obtained five credits and above in all subjects, including English Language and Mathematics

Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Godswill Obioma made this known on Thursday while announcing the results at the examination body's headquarters in Minna, the Niger State capital

He revealed that 41,459 candidates registered for the examination, out of which 39,503 sat for it.

According to Obioma, 26,277 candidates obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics while 34,014 candidates obtained five credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.

The Registrar added that 6,465 cases of examination malpractice were recorded in the 2020 SSCE External, saying there was a reduction to the 17,004 cases of malpractices recorded in 2019.

NECO according to him, also blacklisted four supervisors, who were found culpable of aiding and abetting malpractice

Obioma announced that the affected supervisors would no longer be engaged in the conduct of NECO examinations, adding that one examination centre in Ogun State has been derecognised for intimidation

He explained that the centre was derecognised for attempting to induce NECO officials and aiding and abetting examination malpractice.

The Registrar maintained that the examination body’s zero tolerance for examination malpractice, was responsible for the reduction in the level of malpractice recorded in the results
