A Kadi of the Sharee'ah Court of Appeal in Kwara State, Honourable Justice Abdur Raheem Ahmad Sayi has taken a swipe at Presidency and Governors in the 36 States in Nigeria for not punishing criminals sentenced to death by courts
The Sharee'ah Court of Appeal's Judge identified failure of the Presidency and various Governors to sign death warrants of convicted Criminals, as one of the major factors responsible for the rising cases of Insecurity including Insurgency, Banditry,kidnapping for ransom amongst others in the country
Justice Sayi who was a Guest Speaker at the first Ramadan Lecture/Iftar to be organized by the Prince Dapo Abiodun's administration in Ogun State, over the weekend in Abeokuta, is highly disturbed that crime is being politicised in the country
He warned that continous politicisation of crime would continue to worsen the already terrible situation, insisting that criminals must be punished appropriately irrespective of tribes or religion backgrounds
"We've seen celebrated Criminals, Kidnappers still walking around in our society, people must be punished for their sins against humanity", he decried
The highly respected scholar in Islamic Jurisprudence frowned against the situation where people of questionable characters are being rewarded by the traditional rulers and religious leaders with various Chieftancy or honourary titles
Justice Sayi cautioned the religious leaders against concentrating on preaching of prosperity and neglecting the basics teachings of love for one another, respect for one another religion beliefs, unity and peace of Nigeria as a country
He asked muslims to see themselves as Nigerians, brothers and sisters, saying "No one is a complete Muslim, if he or she doesn't accommodate people with different religion beliefs and live in harmony with them in line with the conduct of the Holy Prophet Muhammed, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his household"
The Sharee'ah Court Judge also cautioned the media to imbibe the practice of responsible journalism, and avoid disseminating sensitive information capable of heightened the tensed situation in the country
Governor Dapo Abiodun was full of praises for the Islamic Scholar and joined forces with him on the need for traditional rulers and religious leaders to stop honouring undesirable elements in the society as well as ensure Nigerians live as one undivided people to jointly fight the ongoing war against insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and others in the country
