How Gas Explosion Killed Two Persons At Conference Hotel in Ogun



The gas explosion at the Conference Hotel in Abeokuta,the Ogun State capital which claimed the lives of two persons and injured three others on Tuesday, has been blamed on fake gas cylinder used by a technician who serviced a revolving door at the hotel  

The technician lost his life alongside Olamide Bakare, a 300 level student of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun-Ijebu-Ode 

The hotel located on Presidential Boulevard in Abeokuta, is owned by a former governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

The three other persons who  sustained injuries in the explosion are currently receiving treatment in a hospital.

The Hotel Facility Manager, Tunde Osinubi explained in a statement  made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, that the incident occurred when the late technician used fake gas cylinder in  servicing a revolving door at the hotel.

According to him,“a routine maintenance of the automatic revolving door at the entrance of the Hotel reception which involved the use of oxyacetylene gas to weld the door hinges was being carried out".

He added that ,“The Oxyacetylene gas cylinder suddenly exploded, killing the technician and  other person ”.

Osinubi revealed that the gas cylinder was bought at the open market and unable to withstand gas pressure leading to explosion 

“The gas cylinder purchased at the open market may be fake and unable to withstand gas pressure".

The Hotel Manager in the statement, however, expressed sympathy of the hotel management with families and friends of the deceased, 

He urged the general public to be beware of fake gas cylinders in the market.

Edu-Biznews recalled that two similar gas explosion in different places in the city in the last one week claimed lives of four persons, including a minor.
