Ogun State Government is working on setting up of a vocational skills acquisition centre at its Adire,Kampala International Market in Asero, Abeokuta, the state capital, to create more jobs and enhance the production of the very popular local fabrics Adire and Kampala
The market is being transformed by the present Prince Dapo Abiodun's administration, to make it more attractive to Tourists visiting the city, to do some shopping by getting high quality Adire and Kampala clothing materials for themselves
The State Culture and Tourism Commissioner, Dr. Taiwo Oluwatoyin,(FIIM) in a recent exclusive chat with Edu-Biznews in Abeokuta, unfolded the plan to use the hall at the market for the proposed vocational skills acquisition centre for people to come and learn how to make the local the local fabrics
"We have a hall inside the market, we intend to use it as a production centre, we want to make it, a vocational skills acquisition centre for people to come and learn the process of making the local fabrics, Adire and Kampala", he revealed
The Commissioner explained that the ongoing massive renovation works are being done in phases, starting with a very descent and attractive access road to the market and provision of bore-hole to meet the need for water by the traders
His words" The Asero International Market is being done in phases, we've done the road reconstruction, which used to be in a deplorable state, other facilities like the toilet,the stalls, shops and production centre need renovation which will be done by government"
Oluwatoyin added that similar renovation were done at the popular Kemta Adire, Kampala Market in Itoku, within the city, particularly at the main entrance to the market and the production centre which now are looking attractive and befitting
He said that tourist sites including the popular Olumo-Rock and The historic first hospital in the country, Sacred heart Hospital both in Abeokuta, Bilikisu-Osugbo Shrine in Ijebu-Ode, Nigeria's second storey building in Ota and other similar sites across the state's four divisions in Egba, Remo, Ijebu and Yewa axis had been renovated, to boost the huge tourism potentials of the state for the socio-economic benefits of the people
