Ogun Seeks More Private Sector Support To Improve Education

Ogun State Government has called for more Public Private Partnership (PPP), to support its efforts at improving the State’s education sector.

Governor Dapo Abiodun who made the call during the commissioning of a block of four classrooms with toilet facility and borehole, at St. Peter African Church School 1, Iyesi Ota, says more private partnership participation is required for government to fulfil its obligations to the citizenry. 

 Abiodun represented by his Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele explained that his administration's "Build a School Initiative in Africa’ (BASIA), was aimed at encouraging  all-inclusive approach of the private sector, to create a conducive environment for learning to thrive.

His words,"Our administration is passionate about education, this informed the recent appreciation of outstanding teachers and learners of Ogun descent, who we believe have put the State on the global pedestal"

The Governor who described  education as one of the biggest sectors bequeathed by the founding fathers of the state, reassured  that his administration would not renege on its mandate at providing quality education.

He enjoined the school management, students and community to put the facilities provided into good use. 

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, lauded the donor for supporting government in its drive at transforming the education sector, noting that the project would ease learning in the school. 

On his part, the Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Femi Majekodunmi, represented by Mrs. Kemi Adeogun, called for more support from well-meaning individuals, to achieve the ‘Building our Future Together’ agenda of the present administration. 

Speaking, the Donors, Dr. Victor and Kate Ukorebi commended the State government’s giant strides towards improving standard of education, saying the facility would go a long way in maintaining proper hygiene in the school.

In his contribution, the Olota of Ota, Oba Abdulkabir Obalanlege, opined that funding of education could not be left to government alone, calling for more of such gesture.

Responding, the Head Teacher, St. Peter African Church School 1, Iyesi Ota, Mrs. Adetokunbo Oresanwo, appreciated the foundation’s contribution to the school, assuring that the project would be properly maintained, while the Chairman, Parents Teachers Association (PTA), of the School, Alhaji Wadud Suleiman, said members would not relent in facilitating projects that would raise the standard of the school.
