Ogun Govt To Upgrade State Libraries

The Ogun State Government has expressed its determination to upgrade  all the six State libraries with provision of necessary equipment and facilities,to actualize electronic -library system

The upgrading is to make the libraries function properly and make them more conducive to interested readers.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu made this known during a monitoring exercise to the Simeon Adebo Library, Abeokuta, pointing out that it is important for a library to be attractive to encourage seekers of knowledge.

Arigbabu who assured that the Simeon Adebo Library would wear a new look in few months’ time, revealed that the State library in Ijebu-Ode had been refurbished, promising that others would also be renovated in due course.

The Commissioner added that the Ministry had been working in collaboration with the Bureau of Information Technology to digitalise the libraries, stressing that the move would enable people all over the world access materials in a short time.

His words,"As government, we will continue to support all units in the education sector, which the library is also part of, we are working together with the Bureau of Information Technology to digitalise our libraries to e-libraries, where all available materials can be accessed".

The Director of State Libraries, Mr. Vincent Giwa, said database for users would be electronic-based, while the six libraries in the State would be automated, with the use of the fibre-optic, which would allow the libraries to be linked to the internet.

In another development, Prof. Arigbabu has applauded the 2018 Maltina Teacher of the Year Award winner, Mr. Olasunkanmi Opeifa, an indigene of the State for distinguishing himself among the top 10 finalists for Global Teacher Prize 2020.

Arigbabu who gave this commendation while meeting the winner in his office, at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, described him as a worthy ambassador of the State and a leading light of the teaching profession.

In his response, Mr. Opeifa said his visit was to appreciate the State government and encourage his colleagues to always put in their best, urging government to give more recognition to the teaching profession, through awards, cash prizes and more.
