Gateway defeat Insurance 2-0, End First Stanza Of NNL On Bright Note

Strike from Odusina Sunkanmi and Iwundu Chidozie in each half, secured Gateway United a two/nil win against visiting high-flying Bendel Insurance of Benin, in the last match of the first stanza  of the Southern Conference Group B2 of the second tier Nigeria National League (NNL)

Olasunkanmi Odusina opened scoring for the homeside on the stroke of halftime when he connected a pass from  Haruna Salifu who chested the ball down for him, to fire a fantastic pile-driver into the net in the match played  at MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto Abeokuta on Saturday

Gateway boys dictated the pace of the encounter and would have scored earlier in the 15th minute but Seyi Okeowo's header went wide off a freekick.

Seyi Okeowo came close again in the 20th minute with an effort cleared off for a corner in a tight space by Insurance goalie, Kolawole Oladipo.

The visiting side also showed impetus with  Ismail Saraki heading side net.

On resumption of action in the second half of the match ,the Coach Hakeem Busari tutored side sustained its attack on the visitors, until seven minutes into the remaining half when Iwundu Chidozie rose highest to head home Ogunleye Sulaimon's cross past Insurance's Kolawole Oladipo, to double the homeside 's lead

The remainder of the game saw the introduction of Taye Yusuf and Aribisala Timilehin at the expense Seyi Okeowo, Victor Adeoye as Gateway United kept piling the pressure for the third but it was Insurance who resolutely defended their goal to avoid further damage.

Sunkanmi Odusina was thereafter awarded the Man of The Match with a cash gift by Ogun FA chairman Alhaji Gani Majekodunmi.

Gateway United with 19points will now face Bendel  Insurance who are better on the table with 21points, in a reverse fixture on 20th April, 2020 at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.

Local rivals, Remo Stars of Ikenne-Remo are still topping the group with 24 points, with outstanding match yet to  be played as at the time of filing this report
