Flooding: Ogun Begins Demolition of Illegal Structure,Warns Developers




Ogun State Government has begun the demolition of illegal structure built on drainage system and culvert within  setback of some of the major roads in Abeokuta, the state capital, as part of measures to prevent flooding in the state

The State Government frowned against illegal erection of commercial and residential buildings on the right of ways, drainage channels and culverts in the State, warning that perpetrators of such inimical acts risk demolition of such properties.

The State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPL Tunji Odunlami gave the warning after the demolition of a commercial structure built on concrete drain and culvert within the setback along Lafenwa-Ayetoro road in Abeokuta 



The state government warning is coming against the backdrop of seasonal climate predictions for 2021 made by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (Ni-Met) on possible flooding to be witnessed in some parts of the country.

He affirmed that government would not tolerate such insensitive act that could endanger lives and property of citizens.

Tpl Odunlami said government was determined to follow the physical planning law of the State, noting that the property owners in the affected area who have been served with contravention notice, should stop further construction, reiterating the commitment of the present administration to safety of lives and property of every resident.
